Marblehead Marketing really got it's start in August of 1999 when Lisa Rakowski & Rich Mistkowski tied the knot. (Lisa Rakowski Mistkowski. I couldn't possibly make that up) :-) We fell madly in love while both of us worked for the national accounts division of Staples. We were really good at what we did and talked about one day walking away from "corporate America" and doing our own thing. In June of 2001 we made it a reality by buying our first business, the Marblehead Sport Shop. I sharpened skates, while Lisa continued to work at Staples.
Fast forward to 2004, one business and one little girl later.(Lauren & in 2005 we were blessed with Mattie) We decided to move to NJ to be closer to family (we LEFT the beach to move to NEW JERSEY. I know! I know!) So we sold the Sport Shop and moved to Long Valley, NJ.
Lisa had the marketing and I had the sales background, so what could possibly go wrong? (hmmm) If you've ever worked or thought about working with your spouse, you know exactly what I mean when I say that! But some how, some way, we made it work.
A lot has changed with Marblehead Marketing, but every day we continue to help companies with their Top of Mind Marketing.
For over 12 years, we've been helping our customers:
Our business, like every business, is extremely competitive. But we're really good at what we do. We have creative ideas. We have a ton of experience. We help make our customers jobs easier by managing the enitre process, so they can focus on their core jobs. We always have a "plan b" when things don't go "exactly" as they should.
And most of all we care about your success. If you're successful, then we're successful. So if you're happy with your current situation, that's awesome. However, if you're looking to make a change, we'd love to talk to you.
Marblehead Marketing was Lisa's idea. Over the years, she did a lot of the marketing and a lot of the "behind the scenes" work for and with our customers. In other words, she was the "brains" of the operation. Lisa used to say, "I like to stay below the radar". But our customers knew who was making things happen. Besides being beautful, Lisa was creative, smart, funny, and from time to time she would be known for taking a "shot, two, or 3" at me, which others really seemed to enjoy. She was one of only 3 people who called me "Dickie".(which my mother hated) In 2013 Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer. And beat it. In 2015, Lisa was diagnosed with stomach cancer. And we thought she beat it. In the spring of 2016, her cancer metastasized to her bones and back. Lisa was a fighter in every aspect of her life. The toughest person that I've ever met! She fought incredibly hard each and every day. She fought for her life and she fought for her family. However, on November 12, 2016 she passed away. She will always be a part of what we do in so many ways. Her influence is all over Marblehead Marketing. From time to time, you'll see pictures of her doing what she enjoyed most, smiling, being at the beach, teasing me, or being a mom. Her favorite thing to do in life? Very simple. Being at home, in her jammies, hanging out with her kids. Just being with her family.
Lisa and I founded Marblehead Marketing in 2001. Both of us have over 30 years of marketing, sales, and national account experience. Together we built a business that has been continuously growing because we have pretty awesome customers. The thing that I know and understand the most? The value of long term relationships. It's so much easier (and less expensive) to keep a customer than it is to get new ones. Since Lisa passed away, my life has changed a lot. From a business perspective, not so much. Lisa and I built a business that could operate without us. Susan Sullivan, our Director of Operations, pretty much ran the company while I was focusing on caring for Lisa. Susan & our customers worked "hand in glove". I'm back and working with our current accounts and busy building new relationships. The big changes have been as a single dad with a special needs son and a teenage daughter. There are 24 hours in a day and I'm finding that I'm using most of them. Thank God I have 2 great kids.
As Director of Operations, Susan is responsible for all the details. Basically, she's the "go to" person to make things happen. All successful companies have a person like this. Like Lisa, Susan prefers to "stay below the radar", go above and behind doing her job, and work with our customers. In the picture, you'll see Susan holding a little boy. The picture is from a mission trip to the DR doing one of the things that she enjoys most. Helping others. I know she knows this, but we'd be lost without her.
Jaime handles all of our content marketing and social media. She's incredibly talented and really good at what she does. A lot of people get caught up in the pure numbers of social media. But Jaime really has an incredible understanding about how engagement turns people into fans, friends, and most importantly potential customers. Day in and day out, she does an incredible job for our customers.
